Lovely! I adore those huge tortoises

I used to drive past the entrance to Bristol Zoo on my way to Westbury on Trym when I was 'on the road' for a year; often wondered what it was like - it's looks very green . . . do they have extensive gardens there?

From my recollection Yola, yes Bristol is very leafy for its site. Haven't been there for years. I'm sure I've told the story of when we went and the keeper and the young gorilla were sitting on a bench - in a public area!

I'm sure H&S would never permit that now! It was lovely to see.

DM, the keeper you mention used to sit in the Gorilla house every day with that baby and it's mother and take him out for walks regularly until he got too big, obviously...

He had been the gorilla keeper for years and used to spend alot of time in with the gorillas. The mother didn't object to him feeding or cuddling the baby at all!

There are several lovely lawns and picnic areas there and they pride themselves on their plant and flower displays.

The tortoises are lovely Jac........the girl in the second pic is trying to get the tortoise to munch on a carrot! I don't know if it wasn't feeling too well as it didn't stretch it's head out of the shell......... she had a bowl of veg and fruit there and was attempting to hand feed it. I'm not sure how old the tortoises were...
