Fingers crossed all will be well .... although I am sure we all understand that you'll be worried about them until they are safely home again. Is 4 months a bit early? Pip was done at 6 months, but I guess it depends on their sexual development. |

We've recently started an early neutering programme in line with the CPL. Me and a couple of the other nurses in my practice went on some courses recently about it and have just started. We've only neutered one of the nurses kittens and the second lot will be my 2 so far under the early programme, but it seems to be going well. The anaesthetic risks are lower and recovery times better in the younger kittens which surprised us. The surgeries tend to be much less complicated and quicker the younger they are, and we're finding that we're getting more and more 5 and 6 month old kittens coming in already pregnant |

Anything that reduces unwanted pregnancies must be good. I hope all goes well - it's brave of you and the other nurse to volunteer your kittens to start the trial off. Well done to all involved. |

One of the larger rescues here insists that kittens are neuterred / spayed at 4 months Amber - will keep all fingers and toes crossed that all goes well. xx |

Thoughts will indeed be with you then - of course, that bit younger makes it that bit scarier as well... I did quite a lot of reading online when Cloud was coming up for her op, and found that several places do advocate earlier neutering. That, and I've a friend who volunteers with cat's protection, who routinely get their kittens done a little earlier, and she was a bit surprised that it was so late for Cloud... |
