New Years Eve?

Any plans? I'm just staying in as usual and watching the ball fall in New York.

I'm working New Years Day so although I'll be staying up till midnight I won't be having anything alcoholic (sp) to drink.

Re: New Years Eve?

Nothing much planned here. I only went out once on New Year's Eve (when I was a young woman) but loved it!

I may not even stay up .......................

Each year during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square in Manhattan, New York City, a time ball made of crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year.

Here's a little explanation:

Each year, millions of eyes from all over the world are focused on the sparkling Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball. At 11:59 p.m., the Ball begins its descent as millions of voices unite to count down the final seconds of the year, and celebrate the beginning of a new year full of hopes, challenges, changes and dreams.

I'm in bed at 11 anyway watching the late news, so always stay up till the ball has dropped and everyone sings Auld Lang Syne,

I've only been to on new Years Eve party too, Angie: the big one in 1999 when we thought everything might collapse! Great fun!

Here's the ball:

Re: New Years Eve?

Over here, all the TV channels have their OB crews at Big Ben awaiting the striking of midnight. Your ball drop sounds more "modern"!

I do actually love to see some of the firework displays. Australia's is always brilliant.

Re: New Years Eve?

a very quiet one this year. I'm dreading it tbh, I always find it a reflectful time as it is, but with my gran passing a few weeks ago, i get that feeling that's when it's going to hit. When I was a child, my granparents house was the place to be at Hogmanay, huge parties, all the family over. I haven't grieved properly yet, as I've been trying to get through Christmas for the girls sake. So really don't want to go anywhere at the bells
