Protect hares and their dependent young - please help!

Hi folks - I received an email this morning from the Humane Society about the following campaign. I don't know about you, but I am particularly fond of hares and think they are magical creatures and would ask you to support this campaign if you feel able.

I’ve just written to my MP asking them to sign an Early Day Motion to help protect hares and their dependent young.

The hare population has suffered a serious decline the in UK, with an estimated 80 percent reduction in the last century.

A government target to double springtime numbers by 2010 failed to achieve its goal. And yet, because of a lack of protection during the breeding season, each year tens of thousands of dependent young hares are left to die a cruel death when their nursing mothers are killed.

A worthy cause indeed..! Glad to have signed it angie, didn't take a minute!

Click on the link and have your friend's emails adresses handy so they can sign it too.

I don't think hunters and the travelling people give it a second thought when they kill a hare; kill the mother and you kill all the leverets leaving them starving and confused. Something needs to be actioned, and fast!

March hares boxing is a rare enough sight these days. I have only seen one wild hare in the whole of my life.

I am impressed with my MP - today I got a postcard from House of Commons acknowledging my communication .... ie. I'd signed the petition.

I feel sad though because that indicates to me that sadly few people are signing the petition.
