Medication for soft stoolhello to my fellow cat lovers.........got a question...has anyone here ever given their cats Imodium for soft stool? If so please explain. Also has anyone used Diar-eze fot the same issue?

Absolutely agree with above comment. Never give a cat human meds. If your cat is loose or has diarrhoea, it is best either to withdraw food for 24 hours and then feed boiled, poached or steamed chicken or white fish with rice cooked until it is soft. Don't add any salt to the cooking water. If things don't settle then, I would advise a trip to the vet. |

How old is the cat? If its a kitten, I personally would not with hold food for 24 hours but would feed something more gentle on its digestion, such as poached chicken or fish as Angie has said. What do you currently feed the cat? If you have recently changed the food, a sudden change or intolerance may be the cause, so go back to what you were feeding previously. How long has it been passing soft stools for? Just how soft are we talking? If the cat has had this problem for a few days or more, get it to the vet as it may be dehydrated which can cause other issues. Is the cat indoor or out door? When was it last wormed? If the cat goes outside, it may have eaten something which hasn't agreed or it may well have picked up a bug or have intestinal worms which must be treated. Please do not use human medicines unless your vet has stated that it is ok to do so and has told you the correct dosage. |

Bailey is a male 5 1/2 yr old orange tabby, a real sweetheart. I've had him 3 years now and he's strictly an indoor cat. He's ALWAYS had very soft stool...vet says nothing physically wrong and agreed to the Imodium as long as I watch him closely. Some vets even recommend it. I've altered his diet, changed foods including grain free high quality but only the Imodium did the trick. I discontinued it last week and have another vets appt. on the 19. Other than his soft stool he's a healthy happy kitty with a good appetite. |

THANK GOD...I FINALLY conquered Baileys *soft stool* issues by changing his kibbles to Natural Balance Alpha Chicken, Turkey Meal and Duck Formula Dry Cat Food is the dawn of a new grain free cat food. And by also adding Feline FortiFlora to his morning Friskies pate'. I no longer have to chase him down to clean his butt after he poops! |

Actually...nothing REALLY helped until I began feeding him grain free foods...NOW his soft sool issues are GONE |

Does he ever! No more gas or wipes and perfect poops. You know what else...it no longer smells so bed either. The only downside is the cost which is really expensive. He's now on grain free Natural Balance Green Pea & Duck Formula Dry Cat Food and Nature's Variety pate. He's put on the weight he lost and is a very happy & healthy kitty. |
