Lovely A tree for Eileen will look beautiful there. What do you recommend as a hardy tree,one that will tolerate the scottish climate, as well as be useful

I have a Cherry, and a Malus in the front, and both have beautiful blossom every spring....so something like that...

What a perfect place, Moli .... thanks for agreeing to Eileen's tree being planted in your garden.

Do you fancy a fruiting cherry as opposed to an ornamental? I am not sure how well the fruiting sort would do in your climate? Or a "proper" crab apple instead of the ornamental varieties? Perhaps you'd rather not attract too many birds with your cats on the prowl?!

Not sure about the climate issue, but what about some kind of nut tree? Cobb or hazlenut or walnut? Or an olive tree? If we get a more mature one they are extremely hardy as some of the northern Italian hill slopes get v cold.

I think the garden lacation and care are all first class any sort of tree will be fine with me.

Our local nursery sell Tree's specially for this area, so should be a good choice...I already have loads of birds in the garden Angie.....My bird feeders are in the side garden, the cats do not go round there often...My boys are not out that much...
