I can't whistle, never got the knack, but I do love singing, and was forever getting into trouble at school for doing so whiel in class... Now I'm one of a few colleagues who are OK at it, and someone commented a few weeks ago that it can be quite bad if you happen to know the song, hear a line or so of it, and then can't get it out of your head all day... |

What a good thread! Now that you mention it I can't remember when I last heard anyone singing or whistling when I was outside. I can't sing at all, but confess to doing it in the shower sometimes or sing along to a favorite on the radio or CD .... Leia looks at me strangely ...... |

I think part of it is that it's 'not cool' or something. I still occasionally do sing while I'm walking, but if I come close to anyone I'll find myself instinctively singing under my breath until I'm safely past them. Never mind the fact that they probably heard me before and after I was in their immediate area. But I got teased a lot for it when I was at school, and in general it tends to be seen as something not quite the thing to do now... Least, far as i can tell. I was more or less taught that you keep it to your house, your car (with the windows up!) or concerts and similar! |
