chickens

Following on from Janes chicken bit in another thread........ Jane, we have chickens too.Well done on your ex-battery girls. I love my chickens & I go on a chicken forum. Can't believe I just admited that here.
We have got 4 Goldlines, just coming into lay & 6 young light sussex, (about 10/12 weeks old?) we bought them a few weeks back as chicks & have been waiting to sex them, but we're fairly sure now that they are 4 boys & 2 girls. So that means 4 will have to go as we can't keep them here.... but it does mean we can get a couple more girls. I want a Calder ranger for my birthday, but hubby can't get one from anywhere..... Jane - I'd love to see photos of your chickens.

Re: chickens

Ooh a thread with my name in it haha :P

Well guess what! You know how I said about the eggs and we didn't think they would hatch? One of them starting hatching last night, this morning I got up way too early and s/he still hadn't hatched but by the time I left for school s/he was out and nice and wet lol. Came home and s/he's all nice and fluffy now! Three eggs left, VERY doubtful about one but the other two have little holes in them now, wow, so happy
Will get photos of them asap!
Send us girly vibes eh, we want hens

What chicken forum do you go on? I've been looking around for a while for a nice one but havn't found anything that active.

Have got some photos already of our other girlies/guy but will have a photoshoot later if it's not raining

Do you have any pics?

Re: chickens

yes I'll find the pics.

I go on a site called the Omlet forum - it's for people with "Eglus" they are a specific type of hen house. you don't have to have one to use the site, we don't have an eglu & I still go on there.

Re: chickens

Hehe thanks guys.

smudgley, they should be marans - we got the eggs from someone on our allotment (very reliable nice guy) who said he had some maran hens and a maran cockral together. We also have 3 marans (2 hens 1 cockral), we had another hen before but she passed away unexpectadly at about 6 months and no, you can't have it :P
