Christmas Lights

Just back from our annual drive around to see all the houses decorated with Christmas lights The girls love seeing them, and hopefully next year we will be able to out up some ourselves (OH is a big kid). Do you like these lights or do you think they are tacky, lol?

Re: Christmas Lights

It depends! Some displays are just stunning: white fairy lights on bare trees, or around porches and shrubbery, or multi-colored wreaths. but some are what I call Las Vegas garish! A bit too, too much...like illuminated Santas and reindeer made of wire and covered with lights. It's just down to a matter of taste. Hope I haven't offended anyone who likes Santas and reindeer with lights...

Re: Christmas Lights

I'm a bit minimalist when it comes to lights. And I'm not a big fan of the houses that cover every available inch with flashing lights.

Reading's had a bit of an up and downer in with this chap who lives in one of the upmarket Thameside villages who absolutely DROWNS his multi-million pound house in lights each year, threatened with an asbo and taken to court by his neighbours to make him stop.

A bit extreme, but then it's a tiny, private road and the hundreds of people viewing his lights chew up the road and the incidence of car break-ins aparently goes up significantly during 'lighting up times'.

Re: Christmas Lights

oh dear, poor neighbours. I wouldn't go mental, but I would like to put quite a few lights out. I desperatley want some lovely electric blue lights that I have seen. They are the icicle type that hang down and I just think they are so different from the usual white.

Re: Christmas Lights

I think a row of icicle lights just dripping from a drainpipe or similar is lovely. It's the santa on the roof, the neon Merry Christmas and the galloping reindeer that get me . . . this is not the guy, but a similar house 'on a quest to do one better'.

Re: Christmas Lights

Hmm, it is just a little OTT isn't it, lol!! Mind you from the photo, at least all his seem to be the one colour of lights. There are so many round here with e the neon coloured lights and the blow up santas and reindeer etc which is great to take the kids to see, but you have to feel sorry for the poor neighbours.

ive only got a tree up, cant be bothered with all the rest, i like to see a small display, when i lived in suffolk there was a whole row of houses that put up a huge display, and they used to raise a fortune for kiddys charitys.
