Age-related loss in mental function and activity levels

I noticed a new product advertised at our vet called "Aktivait" - for cats and dogs - helps reduce age-related loss in mental function and activity levels. This is a nutritional supplement which is said to "help prevent free radical damage and improve electrical transmission between nerve cells in the brain".

I would be interested to hear if any Catsey members have come across this product or if they have used it, whether they have noticed any improvement in their cat.

Not that my two need it just yet .......... but others may find this information useful.

i used it on my 17/18 yr old cat but it didnt seem to make any difference,the vet gave it a mnth,an said if it hadnt made a difference by then,it would never work

He mostly sleeps now which is much better than screeching like a seagull,which is part why I wanted to try the activait
He doesn't even go out anymore either

I am afraid that is normal for an elderly cat Niki. It is a sad but inescapable symptom of ageing. At least, like you say, he is no longer screeching which must have been distressing to you as it was presumably a sign of his distress too.

Is he still eating reasonably well?

yeah i think so,i have cass too,so not really sure,how much he eats

This sounds very much like alzheimers medication. If so it is more of a preventative and prolonging medication only useful if taken from the very early stages of reduced mental function. May i ask how much your vet charged for it Niki?
