She isn't my cat. As its prescription only, they would have to see her & it just isn't an option as she is. Personally, I think vet would probably want to pts - but her owners absolutely adore her, I trust implicitly that they will know when she is suffering. *Please note, I would never ever normally be asking such a question regarding giving POM without being prescribed etc, but this really is an exceptional case & I just feel a bit happier in the knowledge that she is comfortable. |

sounds like a horrible dilema, but no-body can force them to have their pet put to sleep. what is it thats wrong with her? do you think shes in pain? i wouldnt want to reccommend using it in the off chance theres something wrong with her that the metacam could make worse. |

is there anyway you could convince the owners to take her to the vet to talk about how to make her more comfortable in her last weeks? if she has any liver or kidney problems the metacam could possible worsen them. sounds like your in a horrible position, between the care of the cat and the poor owners |

I wouldnt give Metacalm to a dog never mind a cat It is very very hard on the stomach. The only time i ever agreed to it, i insisted the dog had something to cover her stomach (Cimetidine) & even then she took a reaction There are other much safer pain control meds that a vet can prescribe |

How old is the cat? In all honesty if the cat needs any sort of pain releif then she really must see a vet, age related illness can be anything and some can be managed. I am sure the owners do adore her but they MUST put HER NEEDS before their own. She must already be suffering or youi must suspect that she is suffering if you are prepared to go ahead and administer prescribed meds with out seeking veteranery adivse. Personally I think it would be a very unwise and irresponsible thing to do. |
