Bee in the Bonnet!

Just had to let you know that there is a modern phrase that gets my goat and sets the bees in my bonnet a-buzzin'! It's "I/he/she turned around and said .............."

What does that mean????? I know it is a very frequently used phrase, but does that make it a good one???? Not IMO!

Any common phrases make you prickle????

Oh I agree, what a silly expression! A shame what people do to our lovely language. Not a phrase, but what sets my teeth on edge is how, like, some people cannot utter a sentence, like, not using the word "like" !! And I shudder during February every year as it seems no one on TV knows that it is not pronounced Feb-you-ary!!

I've not heard of that phase Angie! Both of the ones you mention really annoy me too Eileen, especially when poeple continually use the work "like", using "'en that" frequently is also annoying. When OH an I have a cuddle/kiss our daughter often says "go get a room"! I guess she is lucky we still want to do that after nearly 28 years marriage!!

Re: Bee in the Bonnet!

The one that really gets me is 'would of' instead of 'would have'. I know it's something that's being used more and more when written; even here . . . I have to correct Dominik 20 times a day and he STILL insists on say this

Re: Bee in the Bonnet!

And "waiting on" instead of "waiting for" ! My Mom would correct me by saying you wait ON a platform FOR a train......
