Today was my eldests Birthday, he stayed with us last night.
This morning we took Malaika to a Doggy birthday bash in the park. It was Enya the red setters 1st birthday and Jim's 26th

It is fun Kate, people meet up most mornings at 10 am, it's been superb for socialising Malaika. Someone said today that one of the park rangers had mentioned trying to stop people meeting as the dogs have churned the ground up with running on it ??????

That's a bit high handed surely!?! Tis only what happens to grass in wet weather! Goodness! I hope they reconsider...

Looks as if fun was had by all! That's not an officially sanctioned dog park then, where they can legally be let off lead?

Eileen, Dogs are allowed off lead in most of our parks. As far as i know there are no dog parks in England, wish there was.

given the number of dogs I've come across through the years who took themselves for a walk on a regular basis... We couldn't do that with our one, she would wander for a bit, then find someone nice to follow for a bit...

On the other hand, if we felt confident enough with the recall it was common place to take her for a walk with the lead in hand but not actually attached to her.

I know of one park in Dunfermline where there is an official dog run bit. Think it's cause they like to keep the rest of it clear of 'fouling' and if they create a special area where dogs can 'go' they think it will help...

Certainly we don't have the stringent leash laws of other places!

we only let Malaika off in certain places and under certain circumstances. Her recall is very good for a Basenji, the problem is she sometimes forgets she has good recall if there is something more interesting.
I never leave the house without a poo bag now and always pick up after her. I quite like the idea of designated dog areas in parks were they can be off lead.
