Back on the Meds :(

Tiger has been back to the vet for a check up, he had a stroke a short while ago and was put on meds due to a galloping heart rate. The vet was absolutely positive that this caused the stroke. His heart rate was doing very well and he was taken off the Fortekor, the result of his blood test was all clear. I don't think my vet was very pleased the other vet had taken him off the meds. Poor boy, at least I know these meds keep him stable, annoyed to think the other vet at the practice may have been leaving him open to another stroke

Re: Back on the Meds :(

It does seem strange that another vet would take Tiger off the tablets. My Cat has just gone on Fortekor because he has kidney failure.
So was Tigers heart rate ok when the original vet saw him again ?

Re: Back on the Meds :(

It was pretty fast and she's sure it wasn't just because he was at the vet. She's the one who specialises in cardiology in the branch. The other vet thought because he seemed so stable he be taken off the meds, not thinking I suppose that it's only the meds that are keeping him stable. I dread to think what might have happened.

Glad he's back on the meds that seem to keep him stable. A specialist cardiologist vet must know best. Cuddles for Tiger.

I'm assuming his thyroid has been checked.

Re: Back on the Meds :(

Yes they have checked his thyroid and thankfully that isn't an issue. They did at first think it could be a factor. His bloodwork came back all clear, just the galloping heartbeat now.I suppose it could be worse for him and I am thankful the meds will keep him stable and reduce his risk of further strokes. She's a great vet
