Oh no Koko is turning into a teenager!

And all before I have got her into a normal frame of mind.

She was born on 21 August 2008. In two or three days she will be exactly six months old.

Last night we were playing with her mice, well I was watching tv (Holby City) and half heartedly throwing her mice onto a chair so she could chase and dive bomb them.

This kitten has been very quiet, normally my siamese have been very vocal. Last night I got entranced by something on the tv, she thought I wasn't paying attention and out came this complete Siamese yowl.

Aw thought I, Babys first word.

Then during the night I woke up, and thought.......eek Baby nothing, Koko is going into season!!

Well is she? Could she be?

She certainly is beginning to make her presence known vocally a lot more. So just learning to chat or looking for love?

Six months? Could be, some cats come in to their first heat at 5 months, like my Misty. But she was a moggy, I've heard Orientals take longer...?? Any other signs, rolling, lots of calling? Oh dear, you wanted to put off a vet visit until she'd calmed down a bit and gotten more approachable!

I hope she's just getting chatty!

If she is in heat, I will just have to live with it - no way will a vet spay her while in heat. Well thats what I thought anyway.

Being in heat (is she??) and calming down do not belong in the same sentence.

How long does a first heat last anyway?

Earplugs may well be the only answer!

She's a kitten. She rolls, she falls off chairs, she chases around.

She hangs off the edge of a seat upside down and then gets frightened because I have different glasses on.

She has learnt to yowl.

OK no garden visitis then. It,s too cold anyway.

Actually they CAN spay a cat in heat, at least it's done here in the States, but most vets don't recommend it. Truthfully, I can't remember how long Misty's lasted, (many many years ago) think it was about 3 - 5 days, drove my poor neutered boy mad, he didn't know what had gotten into her!

Definitely no garden!! Earplugs.... probably!

I've never experienced a cat in heat. When Smudge adopted us, she was already preggers and we had her spayed as soon as possible after she'd given birth.

Sorry can't help with practical info - there must be someone here who knows how long etc. Hope you'll get more info soon.

A female cat can come into heat every 2 - 4 weeks so you would be wise to talk to your vet about getting her spayed as soon as possible..

I would agree with Mags about talking to your vet and getting the spay organised.
I loved the expression "babies first words", made me chuckle
