Minnie at vets

Minnie went back to the vets tonight for a check up after being diagnosed a month ago with kidney problems.
Shes been taking one tablet a day(fortekor)and ive tried to change her food. She will eat the Hills K/D biscuits and i bought the special Integra kidney food.(wont eat that)So i give her a much smaller amount of her normal food.
Well the vet is very pleased with her.Shes gone from 3.4kg to 3.6kg and the blood results show the enzyme level in her kidneys has gone down. Its not normal but its better.
The vet said to keep her on the tablets and keep doing what ive been doing and go back in 3 months.
Shes getting lots of love and cuddles(thats nothing new)

I'm very glad you've had good news about Minnie. May she continue to do well. Kizzy sends her adopted sister loads of purrrrrs.

Re: Minnie at vets

That's very encouraging news that her liver levels are going in the right direction. If you struggle to get her to eat the renal foods, maybe ask your vet about a phos binder such as ipakitine, that way you can feed her what she would like to eat rather than struggle trying to get her to eat renal foods. Can I just add that wet food is considered best for cats with CRF due to the moisture content, dry foods make the kidneys work harder than they should.
Fingers crossed that she continues to improve xxx

Re: Minnie at vets

To add to what Elaine has said- to which I agree- also talk to you vet about rubenal, which reduces the damage to the kidneys as well. Can you try a few types of renal food, mine eat RC renal cat ( tuna flavour) mixed half and half with hi-life, and a 1/2 teaspoon of ipakitine powder, twice a day.
Mine have done very well on this so far.
Just a wee aside, have you had her thyroid and blood pressure checked, these can both agravate kidney problems and treatment of them can help the kidney problem.
