oh, this was a lovely programme. Yes me and my mam used to watch this in the 70's and we loved it. Can remember all the original characters like Rose and Mr Hudson and Mrs Bridges. Wasn't there a spin off series with Thomas and Sarah (John Alderton & Pauline Collins)? |

Loved it too! They've been re-running it on some digital channel recently and I've watched several episodes - it has really stood the test of time. Probably because the actors genuinely looked as if they came from that era rather than a thin Edwardian veneer laid over 70s fashion. I hope the new series is equally authentic. |

oh that's a shame Shelley, I loved the on screen chemistry between those two. Trying to recall the name of the poor scullery maid , the lowest one in rank, she had a dog's life from Mrs Bridges, but I think the old girl had a soft spot for her too. I used to think that'd be me if I'd lived then, knowing my luck just consulted Wikipedia... her name was Ruby |

PP do you remember the scullery maid in the first series, Emily. She hung herself in her bedroom whilst the others were getting ready for a day out. I remember being quite shocked as a child at this. |
