Cut My Elbow Open!

Moving a cat over into a new kennel this morning, and I hit my elbow on one of the meds trays that are attatched to the outside. Thinking "ouch - that hurt!" I had a quick glance down at my elbow, and at the time it looked like I had just grazed it. Thinking nothing else of it I carried on with my work.

I was just taking one of the dogs off of her drip, when the vet asked me what the spots of blood on the floor were from. My reply was "oh it must be a from the drip before I put the bung in." Then I lifted my arm up and thought "what the hell is that running down my arm?!" and when I looked, I had cut my elbow right open!

It's quite deep - about 4 - 5 mm and bled for about 15 minutes after I noticed it, despite applying lots of pressure. The first dressing I put over it, the blood soaked straight through within seconds The vet had a look at it after a while and offered to glue it for me but being a tough nut I said I was ok

We gave it a clean up with various sprays and creams - who needs doctors when you work in a vets It's so so sore now - but although it's deep, the skin is quite closed, so I'm hoping that if I just keep it covered it should heal on it's own - trust me to do it 2 days before our nurses wedding

I wasn't really being a tough nut - I just didn't want anyone touching it I was enough of a wimp when one of the girls was spraying it with Aquspray (which is literally purified water with mild antiseptic) and it didn't even hurt

I'm becoming a bit accident prone lately

I can be a bit klutzy from time to time myself: that was a nice perk when I was working for the Doctors group...could get my burns and scrapes looked at by the nurse.....as well as BP measurements and blood work, all free...

Ouch, that does sound painful! Perhaps you could put a couple of steristrips over it to keep the wound closed together? Do hope it heals quickly..
