Beauty Beauty had a squeaky meow, barely used, because she seemed to think she'd get laughed at about her meow. She used to "squeak" at me when she wanted to say hello or tell me about her day. Beauty had a quiet, ladylike purr, always when she was being petted (or in the case of near the end it was a "pain purr" when she was handled ) Dylan Dylan has two meows - one quiet (usually a last resort plea for food) and a loud "I want something!!!" meow (also used as his "chatty meow", when he wants to talk to us generally) He has a loud, deep purr, used when he's being stroked, eating, drinking, sleeping, eating, getting stroked and did I say eating? He purrs a lot! |

Alfie has a singing meow. It sound as if he misses out the 'm'. He meow's to get in/out, for food, for cuddles, if we call on him he meow's as he comes toward us. Although Alfie does purr the only way to know is if you put your finger against his throat and feel the vibration. Kinsi is quite a vocal cat. She has a range of meows and chirps. She basically responds when spoken to or to get attention. She purrs when she is cuddling up for a nap or when she is eating. Her purr is either quite deep and vibrating when cuddling up or raspy when eating. |

Leia has a lot of different meows, quite soft but different from one another. ... and of course her "silent miaow" when she's sooooo hungry she can't speak! Extremely soft purr also, usually when having a chin rub, tummy tickle or a cuddle. Dandy had a very rusty sounding meow, but a loud purr for a little guy! |

Cool thread! Miw Quietish, raspy meow, gets louder if we ignore her......sounds more like a "mew", she can say her name! Only ever meows when she wants to be let outside on her harness and leash (all the time in the summer!) or when she wants us to scoop the litter box! Lovely deep rumbling purrs when curled up on OH's chest or when OH is stroking her.......anything to do with OH really LOL she adores him! Mousie Has a very loud siamese-like yowl when upset, e.g. when she sees the box, in the car on the way to vet, when in heat (which is all too frequently! LOL!). Softer, "purry" mew when she sees dinner coming, or when someone pays attention to her.....or even just looks at her LOL! On entering a room or area where one of her "humans" is; a kind of "purr, mew, purr, mew. Funny when she does it coming down/up the stairs as she does it in perfect time with each step LOL! Has a soft quiet purr when curled in my lap, usually whilst kneading and suckling on her back leg. Mousie's VERY talkative! She's always making some kind of sound to let us know where she is, what she's doing, and will carry on a conversation when we talk to her, answers us in her own sweet purr/meow/yowl language LOL! |
