Stupid question about photos / laptop

Stupid question coming up about photos.

At work we have days where we show a slide show on the laptop. It was given to me on a disk & I saved the disk (don't know how) as a shortcut, so they are there & easy to play as a slide show by clicking the shortcut.

We did a CP event yesterday & I did think it would be nice to play photos of cat on the laptop as a slide show next time.

So basically, how do I do it? I have got loads of lovely cat photos on my home PC. How do I get my lovely cat & kitten photos onto a disk to play on the laptop?

I've bought some disks (that's a start)

Also maybe you guys could forward me some cutie cat pics, if you didn't mind us using them.

Re: Stupid question about photos / laptop

I'd be interested in knowing how to transfer photos from my computer to a disc to save memory.

Smudgley, I could send you some pics if you want ...

Re: Stupid question about photos / laptop

On my pc and laptop I save pics into folder, then open the folder, highlight all the pics and then choose an option wich is either 'burn' or save to disc. Insert disc and click ok when prompted.

To run the slide show just insert the disc open the photo folder and dble click on first photo, and then choose option run slide show.

That hopefully makes sense?

Good Luck.

I did this for 60 pics and took around 30mins.

There is a "burn" option in my iPhoto. What sort of disc would you need? Can you buy just a few?

a cd read/write disc - you can buy individual ones but that is probably about the same price as buying say 5 or 10.

This type of thing

Thanks, CM; have noted that. We used to use discs to back up data daily on the computer when I was working, they had to be formatted first; but that was 19 years ago so suppose all I know about them is obsolete now!

Think most are now pre formatted or pc does it automatically.

Just a thought - if you are looking to back up pics - does your pc have a usb connection? If so a pen drive would be much easier as you'd only need to create a folder and then save it to the pen drive.

This one has 8gb of memory - that's loads of photos.

Re: Stupid question about photos / laptop

That sounds as if it would be simpler to use for a non-techy person like me. I assume I have USP ports...here's a rather blurry pic: the two white ones are the mouse and keyboard, the black one is the one I upload pics to the computer from my camera with. And there are two spares. Do they come with very clear instructions for dummies?

Re: Stupid question about photos / laptop

A USB doesn't have pins inside - it's a flat(ish) connector which I don't think the ones you have are.

However, once your pics are on the PC I don't think the connector matters - just insert the CD or DVD you want to write to into the disk drive and you should (hopefully) receive screen prompts which help you through the process. Failing that, you might just be able to drag and drop the image icons onto the disk drive and they might simply copy over.

Without these 'wizards' to help me. I'd be lost
