Sweet potatoes

How do you cook them? I want to have it as a jacket - is it the same amount of time as a normal spud, or do they take longer?

Re: Sweet potatoes

No - they cook considerably quicker than normal spuds. About half the time, I think

I would think that would do it - maybe check at 20 minutes?

Re: Sweet potatoes

I have found that a medium sweet potatoe takes about 30-45 mins to cook at about 200c, I usually cook my normal white potatoes for about 1 hour 15-30 mins.

Re: Sweet potatoes

I really enjoyed the one I had last night, so much so that I went and bought another for dinner - it is cooking at the mo!! Only prob is they are so much larger than normal potatoes, I managed to find a small one today, but couldn't finish last nights. And they are much more expensive.

Re: Sweet potatoes

Glad you liked them BT, however I do not find them larger than normal jacket potatoes, if anything the ones I have found in Essex seem to be smaller??

Re: Sweet potatoes

They come in all different sizes here - from tiny to enormous!!! Glad you like it though - it's much more nutritious than an ordinary potato. Why not just use 1/2 of a really big one if it really is too big for you? You could always roast the remaining 1/2 for the next day's dinner

Re: Sweet potatoes

Do you cook the potato and keep the second half, or chop it and fridge the other half? The local greengrocer had some that were really funny shapes!! I don't tend to roast potatoes, nothing to go with them being a vegi!!

Re: Sweet potatoes

BT - I give sweet potatoes to my little boy regularly. Coz he's small, he can usually only manage 1/2 of one. The other half I'll wrap tightly in cling film and store in the fridge. They tend to keep very well when refridgerated!
