spot on

Took Benny to the vet on Monday, cos of an ear infection. The vet said it was mites. She gave him spot on and gave me eardrops for him. I did notice the next day that he has a bald patch on his neck where she put the spot on. Is that usual? I have given him flea treatment before, but that has never happened with me.

Re: spot on

Hi Netty, sorry but I can`t really be of much help really as I have never encounterd this myself, whatspot on did the vet use?
I have heard that the flea collars can make them lose their fur where the collar is though.

Re: spot on

I dont know which she used, but it wasn't the blue frontline triangle type, which I normally use. She had a wee white bottle.

Think I would be tempted to give them a ring to ask them what they used and to ask if it is a normal reaction, just to see what they say.

Re: spot on

Yes, I would do as Leesy suggests Netty. Do let us know what your vet says.

I agree Netty, let the vet know, it may be important for future use.

Re: spot on

I did call the vet. She used stronghold, but said it shouldn't cause a reaction. I checked it on the web and it does say it causes fur loss where it is applied, but nothing to worry about as it should grow back. Stronghold is apparently cheaper than frontline and not as good. I've to keep an eye on it and let her know if there is any change. Its my first time at that vet because its nearer to us, but I think I will go back to my other vet from now on.

Re: spot on

If you are happier with your other vet even though it`s further away I would stick with them.
The vets that I use is quite a trek to get to and there is others closer but I wouldn`t use them at all.
