Hi from me and Joey......

Hi all,

Well, I've always had cats or dogs and each one has been very special, so I just wanted to meet others to chat about cats.....and make sure my current cat is indeed, a cat....and not as I sometimes suspect, some kind of alien.

We got Joey from CPL February 2009 when he was 7 months old and a gangly teenager (no one wanted him because he wasn't pretty enough apparently)

He came running up to the cage door and immediately started showing us around his pad......introducing my son to each cat individually.....it was the strangest thing.

After suitable introductions, he clung to my sons jacket, hanging on to a toggle by his teeth just to make sure we realised he was ours whether we like it or not (we did....both fell in love with him)

So that's it really, we have this cat-thing that does commands - fetch, sit, back, stay, din-dins, here, down.......

And although I'm no cat whisperer, he definately has a vocabularly of about a dozen words, most surprising to any friends here is HELLLLLLLO.............

Is this normal? My vet says he's part Burmese, which apparently explains it all.

I'd love to know what you think and indeed if your cats are like this....and also getting to know you all and your little ones....

welcome to the forum, Joey sounds a realy clever Cat. I love the story of when you first got him, he sure picked you.
It is very unusual for a Cat to follow commands.

Hi Mags and Shelley - thanks for the lovely welcome.

It's reassuring to know you're both are sure Joey is a cat....puts my mind at rest I'm hoping when he gets beyond the "command" stage, he'll help load the dishwasher!

Really should get my son to take a phone video of him doing his "thing". Fetch is the funniest.........

Going to have a look around your great site now.....

Re: Hi from me and Joey......

Hi Eileen, Angie and Nette......wow! what beautiful cats you all have.....they're gorgeous.......

I'll try and take some pics of Joey (he's the one in my avatar, so we're off to a good start him being cat-shaped at least) but I've only just got a new camera - so I expect it'll be in the Glowing Eyes contest

Two years ago we had a stray pedigree silver Bengal keep coming to the house...my late cat at the time wouldn't have any other animal in the house, so we gave it outside shelter and food/water and informed the CPL. After three days it was obvious it was homeless and it broke my heart when they took such a beautiful cat away (I checked and the following week it was chosen by a really lovely couple)

But isn't that a strange cat to just let roam (wasn't microchipped) and had the most haunting baby-wail meouwww.......

Thanks for the compliment, Tezz, and yes, that is heartbreaking about the poor Bengal Good to know he/she got a loving home.

Do enter the Photo Contest, more the merrier! Will Joey "glow" on command?

Hi there - Joey sounds a real character. My mum had two Burmese and they were very vocal and also very clever (although they never did manage the dishwasher thing - but did do their best to lick clean any dishes they came across!) so if he does have Burmese in his breeding then I'd agree that's likely where it came from.
