Donald is not well.

Donald, our old man who is hyperthyroid, in renal failure and also has a skin cell carcinoma on his nose has been losing a lot of weight recently and drinking a lot.
I had him in today to have his bloods done- checking his thyroid and kidneys- and the vet can feel a lump in his abdomen.
Given that his bloods are not too bad, and certainly don't explain the weight loss ( potentially could still be thyroid but his liver enzymes aren't raised which is usually present with hyperthyroids), we are worried it is a cancer.
He is booked in on Thursday for x-rays to try and find out what is going on, if it is something nasty we will not be operating, but try and keep him comfortable as long as possible.

I hope you are able to have more time with Donald and that diagnosis is not as bad as you're anticipating.

Just out of interest, would your vet fully anaesthatise to carry out an x-ray?

The vet is planning to lightly sedate ( I think with gas) and give subcut fluids for the x-ray.

Hmmmm. Mine was adamant we needed to knock Fi out in order to x-ray her. And she was not a stressy cat
