My Baby In Foal!

You may remember a while back, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to sell my Mare due to the problems I have been experiencing since my knee operation in February.

I sold her to a good friend, who had been part loaning Zay with me for a while, and the contract stated, that should things not work out, I would buy her back for the exact same price. Well unfortunately a couple of months back, shortly after taking on Zay, my friend hurt her back and has been unable to ride since - it never rains but it pours! She has seen the doctor, and they have advised that she lays off of the riding at least until they have done further tests, as they are unsure at the moment what the problem is.

We sat down and had a chat, and decided that rather than sell her on, it may be an idea to put her in foal. She has excellent bloodlines - in her prime, someone once offered her previous owner £20,000 for her, just because of the rareity of her bloodlines. She has produced two foals previously, both of whom competed in endurance locally and did quite well, and no health issues have ever been apparent in her lines.

She has been put in foal to a Crabbet bred stallion called Crystal King. I have seen three of his previous foals, all beautiful bay colts - I just can't wait until she comes back to me in the winter the stud are keeping her for a while, just until my recovery progresses further. They have also offered to let her have the foal at stud if I wish - that will be decided at a later date. She is due for a pregnancy check next week

Re: My Baby In Foal!

The gestation period is around about 340 days for a horse. She was sent to stud a couple of months back when my friend was diagnosed with her back problem.

I haven't actually seen her for about a month or so due to various things, and I do feel bad about it, but I know that the stud are looking after her really well and my friend has been backwards and forwards a couple of times (we have decided to 'share' her) and I am popping down there at the weekend to see my baby girl. The stud are pretty certain that she is in foal, but next week will be her first check so we will know more then
