Routine Change

I started school again this week. I have placement twice a week rotating days and evening every other week. This week is evenings, so I don't get home until after 11pm. My partner comes home at a regular time and in essence, my animals are not left alone for as long as usual since I leave later in the day.

Ever since Cheddar and Devon were introduced they are inseparable. They play, play, and play. I know Cheddar loves me but is preoccupied at the moment with endless play with his brother.

When I came home last night it was my fosters turn to be out so Cheddar and Devon are in their large crate together. I didn't have as much time as usual to spend with Cheddar out in the evening.

When I woke up this morning, Cheddar was so distraught and was making a meowing noise I haven't heard before. It was pretty intense and he sounded so sad. As soon as I let him out he was all over me purring and rubbing up against my legs. I have placement only on Thurs and Fri and the shifts are only 7.5 hours long, but the overall routine has changed.

Could it be because he's not used to the new schedule? Is there any way I can help him settle or he will get accustomed over time on his own?

Re: Routine Change

It's good that Devon and Cheddar keep each other company. I would think they will get used to the new routine. They are not on their own for a long period of time. Cheddar was obviously just very pleased to see you. Could you leave a jumper of yours or something in the crate when you have to leave?

Re: Routine Change

I can do that.

Hopefully he gets used to the routine quickly. I feel so bad for my little babies.
