Croaky voice!?

Hi All.
New member here... (liking this forum... only just discovered it!.. Think I will be here a lot now!)...

Just a quick one though - my cat, Sam, now 7 years old, seemed a little off colour last week. You know how you just know.. he was quiet in himself, didn't really come for fuss etc which was unusual etc, but was still eating. I did take him to the vets to just make sure he was ok, but vet gave him clean bill of health.

He has not had any other symptoms really, he is more or less ok in himself etc but has developed a croaky meow in the last couple of days.. so much so, he is not meowing much at all... He is usually a very (very) vocal cat.

Any ideas?

Nikki
(pleased to meet you all!)

Re: Croaky voice!?

Hi Nikki! My initial reaction would be that he has something stuck in his throat, or if any obstruction has cleared, he has a resulting sore throat, but if the vet gave him the all clear, it's more difficult to suggest anything.

Maybe someone else will have some ideas. Poor Sam - it is worrying when you know that something's not right.

Re: Croaky voice!?

Hi and welcome. Nikki! I too wonder if perhaps he has a sore throat, but as the vet says he's OK, can't think of anything else. Some cats just have a funny raspy meow (my Pura boy did, he always sounded as if he needed to be oiled!), but as this has just developed ,,,,,??? If it doesn't clear up I think I'd give the vet a call and discuss. I do hope he improves.

Thanks for the responses! What a friendly bunch you lot are... Not that I expect anything less from cat owners.. I live by the motto of dont trust anyone who doesn't like animals (cats in particular!)...

I remembered that through the pet insurance i have, there is actually a phone line which I can use to try and speak to a nurse or vet for advice, so I may try and dig that number out tonight to see what they say...

These furry babies of mine... if it's not one thing, it's another!

Good idea! Do let us know what they have to say about Sam and his croaky voice. Can you post some pics of him and your other cat ... you may have noticed we love pics here!

Re: Croaky voice!?

Hi everyone.. just to let you know, i called the More Than pet insurance vet line... they were very nice actually. She suggested it was the hint of a cold... perhaps equivalent to human cold/flu.. a viral condition which probably just needs to heal itself and not much we could do. She just said keep your eye on him and make sure he develops no further symptoms, and to call back if I had further concerns.

Turns out he has perked up a bit since I have got home. He has meowed a couple of times, and although not quite right... it seems on the mend. Hopefully he is getting there...

And here he is in one of his soppier moments when curled up with my cat statue thing....

So glad to hear that Sam seems to be mending. He is a gorgeously handsome chap. I'm a push-over for tabbies!
