Candy and fluffy.
candy was in today to be blood sampled to check her thyroid levels, because she is such a little fire cracker she has to be sedated for this. her general bloods were fine but we need to check that she isn't now hypothyroid. She was showing signs of an IBD flair up and was constantly sick again, we decided to check her thyroid and it came back normal, we sent off for free T4 test which is a bit more sensitive because we were suspicious that she may be hyper. This came back a high, indicating she was starting to become hyperthyroid. Since being on treatment she has improved and hopefully her thyroid levels are fine too, because she seems so much better.
fluffy was in for a dental and de-mat, she also had her chest x-rayed because she starts to mouth breathe when being groomed ( hence the reason she needs to be de-matted). She had quite a few bad teeth and her bloods are fine, however her heart is enlarged and she is in the early stages of HCM. This is probably because it has taken so much time to get her thyroid stable, and is the reason she is mouth breathing when stressed. She will start on benazacare and some omega 3 (?) tablets. Not the best of news but at least we know what we have to watch for and she is on medication to slow down the progression of the disease.
