Tonight I'm on duty at work, basically just locking the premises & answering the phones.
All was fine until I got a call at 8pm to say someone had found a dog in a nearby village. (nothing unusual there) I checked the computer number & it was a retired brood bitch from the same village. I tried to contact the lady who looks after the dog, but there was no answer - again nothing unusual, presummed she was looking for the dog. An hour went by & we were getting worried, the lady is approaching 80 & although fit & active she lives alone & we were getting more concerned. (the dog was very muddy & we feared she had fallen whilst walking her, she also knows to phone in if her dog is missing, but I hadn't heard from her) by 10.30pm I decided to contact the police & explain who I was & that I realised a found dog & a lost owner would not usually worry me, but in view of the circumstances & the age of the lady I was very worried.
The police were great. (The police dog section used to be based here & the copper I spoke to on the desk used to work the dog section which was handy) He said they'd log it & I should let them know when she turns up.
Meanwhile I decided to go out there with a friend & her husband & we were going to look around the field to see if she had fallen.........
BUT... Just as we arrived in the village we got a call from the police to say she was ok.
Turned out that she'd gone out to a WI meeting / party in a hurry & left the back door open,
& the dog had got out. When she arrived home the police were there & asked her if everything was ok, explaining we had got the dog & she was fine.
We called round there & reunited her with the dog.
So a happy ending to a potentially horrible outcome & a situation I was quite scared about to be honest!
