Just out of interest - have you ever done a count of males/females - there just seem to be many more females looking for homes in the ads I've looked at.

We work on a priority basis - so pregnant cats take priority, or moms with litters, so we usually have a lot of adult females that have been pregnant with us. Adult male cats unfortunately are our lowest priority, after pregnant cats, kittens & the elderly cats, that is why we don't have many.
However we have lots & lots on the waiting list and will take them in if we have no high priority cats waiting. Other rescues may work the same as us, taking in more urgent cases first. Leaving the adult males low on the priority list.
