Thanks Mags - beat me to it Yes, I went Emma. I did like it, but not sure that I'd go again now. There was a lot of haggling and my mum kept getting offered camels for me |

We went a few years ago to Port El Kantoui. We had an okay time, best bit was the desert safari! I wouldn't go again. Too much haggling as others have said, impossible to just browse in a shop without getting pestered. My daughter was pestered and 'touched' all the time. (She is young & blonde!) I didn't think the hygiene was that good, lots of people smoking and lots of stray animals. I know it is North Africa, but I have much preferred holidays in Greece, France, etc. |

I went back in 1988 and I hated it! We stayed in Hammamet in a 3-star hotel but it had green carpet on the walls, leering waiters and food which upset my stomach. The weather, pool, sea was nice but you did feel constantly ill at ease and 'spied' upon by the local male population. Our trip to the desert was a disaster as the hotel has massive . . . and I mean massive bugs in the room (bugs don't usually bother me, but when they're the size of my hand I do get a bit concerned) and the toilet was beyond use due to the filth within it. The actual visit to the desert was cool as we got caught in a sandstorm. But everyone expects tips, we were taken to Mahmata where the underground cave dwellings were; got shown round one of the caves and promptly almost strong-armed into handing over tips Emma - if you go, make sure you spend as much as you possibly can on the best hotel you can get, and padlock your handbag (and prepare for getting your bum pinched) around the markets!! |

I have to say that the resort we stayed in was fantastic, the service was wonderful and the food good. It was outside the hotel that we had problems. Also, as we went in March, the weather wasn't great so we couldn't just lay in the sun or by the pool and there wasn't really that much else to do in Port El Kantaoui once you'd been to the marina!! It's a good job our hotel had a spa and that's where I spent most of my time!!! lol |

You might think about looking at Morocco too Emma. I've not been to Tunisia so can't comment but I thought Morocco and its people was absolutely wonderful |
