How old...

How were your cats when they were spayed/castrated?

Vets told me to wait until 5 1/2-6 months, but the kittens are only just 5 months and Abi is displaying every night now!
She's doing pretty much all the signs that websites list!

Luckily Trouble doesn't seem interested...he just wants to play, but I will be phoning the vets up this week and booking them both in.
Do you think they are too young?

Re: How old...

Cassie was 6 months old when she was spayed. In your case with a male and a female, I would definitely have a word with your vet about Abi especially Some vets will neuter earlier than 6 months.

Accidents can happen so easily at this age and if Abi is displaying signs now, I would be tempted to try to keep them apart especially at night times just in case

Re: How old...

I would think anything from about 4 months is fine. Especially as you have a mix of both sexes.

Re: How old...

My two were 5 1/2 months.

However, a number of years back I had a male/female. Vet did male at 4 months so I could leave female until older.

Re: How old...

I'd go ahead with vet's advice and get Abi done - then you could leave Trouble until he's 6 months perhaps.

Re: How old...

Misty went into heat at about 5 months (stray, didn't know real age, but that was the vet's estimate) the Sunday before her op was scheduled in the coming week! Yes, I'd have your boy done now definitely, and if the vet thinks it's not too early, have her done too so it can all be done and over in one visit .... and no dreaded vet smell!

Thanks all.
Will be phoning the vets first thing in the morning to enquire about it and hopefully book them both in for this week!

Re: How old...

They say with the boys it shouldn't be done until at least 6months, but in your situation I don't think you have much choice!
