I found this site via Dogsey as I wanted info on a new puppy.


I already have a cat so I thought I would join here too

I have THE most beautiful cat of course. A dark Tortie.

Perhaps I will work out how to post a pic of her one day.

Anyway what finally made me post is that she went missing last Friday ( the 13th!!!) and returned on last night ( Sunday) Hungry as anything but uninjured TG.


BUT I was wondering ...

She came back with her elastic collar around her neck and front leg... I am not too sure I ever want to put a collar on her again... She is micro-chipped after all.

Not surprisingly she is not venturuing too far at the moment.


Anyway, Sorry for the long intro thread.

I hope i get to know you all better soon... and under better circumstances

I think I have done this right.

This is Amber.

Pictures never seem to do her justice. As part of her beauty is when her colours seem to change when she is walking in the sunlight.

Any way to days update is that she is still only going a short distance from the house and not yet ventured past the front garden. Other wise she seems fine.

Hi there! Your Amber looks like a wee poppet - what a scare she must have given you, so glad that all is well. My Pip is a great loser of collars - he has the ones with the safe release clasp and although I moan about the amount of collars he loses, he has always managed to come home unharmed and not caught up in his collar. Both mine are chipped but I always think that to a person who doesn't recognise an individual cat, those with collars are more likely to give the message "I live somewhere and have people who look out for me".

I'm another tortie owner ..... tortie and white though. Your Amber looks gorgeous!

Regarding the cat collars, if you want Amber to wear one, I suggest you get her a safety collar which has a quick release fastening. If your cat gets her collar caught on a branch or similar, the collar will immediately become undone. Have a look here for the safety collars.
Better to lose a collar than injure your cat

Welcome to catsey, Amber is really pretty and looks adorable.
I have never put collars on my cats as I feel they could strangle themselves or get stuck.

Thanks for the added welcomes and I see some of you have cats ALMOST ( ) as beautiful as mine.


The collar Amber was wearing when she went for her little adventure must have been the Nth on she has had.

This one was totally elastic but with a buckle instead of a safety clasp release one... those she can take off her self as easily as you or I take off a coat. (Smart puss!)

One of my work colleagues recounted a story of her cat going missing for 6 weeks ( EKK!) and when it returned she had the same leg in collar problem BUT as she had been gone so long the collar had to removed surgically (That cat is now a happy contended old puss)

Perhaps I can find some where that sells the quick release ones by the gross ( 144... now that shows my age... pre decimal quantities!)

I will have to and look at PAH to see what else they have.

Update on Amber... she is going a bit farther away today and has ventured as far away as next door now... but she still returns every half hour or so to check that we are still here.
