Wild Daffodils, Ancient Funghi and Little Lambs

Here are some photos taken yesterday of our walk through West Dean Woods. The promise of wild daffodils was well and truly kept - thanks to Richard Williamson for describing this walk in The Chichester Observer.

I have to admit that I didn't know that there was a wild daffodil native to the English countryside. It is a far more delicate looking flower than the cultivated varieties and, unfortunately, has no scent.

Further on, after emerging from the forest I came across these bracket funghi that were growing up this tree. The lower ones had been there for some while and were going green. I thought they looked quite sculptural.

At the top of the hill, we were on The South Downs Way - here's a photo looking west towards (we think) Beacon Hill ...

There were sheep grazing in fields on both sides of the path, many had lambs ...

A thoroughly enjoyable walk. Will try to do it again - Mr Williamson states it as being 8.2 kms (5.1 miles).

What a wonderful sight those daffs are I've seen a few little clumps of wild daffs here and there but nothing like the vast numbers you've seen! That seems to have been a lovely walk but I'm not sure my arthritic knees would manage that distance up and down hill
