Unusual Christmas additions.
I hope you all had a good festive period.
We took in our last additions of 2013, on Christmas eve.
We have pretty much closed our doors, but these were a special case and not large animals.
I was contacted by someone who had taken 3 chicks from a woman. The woman had taken them as pets for her children, they were being kept in an open fish tank, no heat or proper food, with dogs and cats and children running free. The kids could handle the chicks whenever they wanted. At about 2 weeks old, one of the kids almost killed a chick by picking it up by the neck, so she decided to rehome.
She put them if [Sys edit: Contains pet forums], free to good home. A lady stepped in and took them to prevent them ending up as snake food, and then contacted us.
After talking to her, I suspect the chick have been bred as sex linked chicks and these are all males, the females will be hybrid layers ready for sale in the spring.
They were pretty quiet on arrival but are now growing well and very active thanks to heat and proper food.
The big problem is if they are boys who start to fight before it warm enough for them to go outside! I will need to have 3 cages for one each.
