I asked my vet about spaying on the left

Maddy was in this morning as her stiches are really sore (she's fine) anyway I asked the vet nurse who seen us, why cats are always spayed on the left, and she didn't have a clue, the vets were both in theatre so she couldn't ask them so she got another vet nurse (who seemed to be a little more knowledgeable) who told me that when cats are spayed on the flank rather than midline, the procedue is actually called the left lateral flank spay, and it is just standard procedure that they are done on the left, he wasn't sure of any actual reason.

Not really an answer!

My two were done on their sides and again a tiny keyhole opening and one stitch (vets said they just put one stitch in as people expected it, but they didnt really need it)!

I wonder if its become a "habit" with no medical basis.

Yep, Purdie has been spayed on the left.........so does this mean I shouldn't panic too much if she does pull her stitches out?

If she pulls her stitches out by yanking at them, that's not good. But some cats will nibble out their stitches after a few days by which time the wound has generally started to heal anyway.

I guess Caroles cat was glued if there were no external sutures.

My vet said they wouldnt need to glue or stitch, Smudgley, as the incision was tiny and it would heal without anything!!

They only did the stitch cos people had been complaining they had left the opening.

Misty had her stitch out straight away anyway and she healed perfectly well.

Its amazing how they can do it with such a small opening.

It was not a cat it was a dog She had internal stitches and then glued. I thought it was an odd way to spay a dog as its the way cats are done.
