Kittens' eyes...

I'm just on briefly to ask a question and post some pictures when I'm done.

I'd researched, and read that kittens generally open their eyes in the second week after birth - but I didn't realise how soon into the second week! They're a week and 3 days old today, and yesterday morning when we came downstairs they all had their eyes open (although one is a little squintier than the other 3).

My question is, how long do I need to shield them from bright lights for? They're in a cupboard under the stairs, so as far as darkness goes they're well set, but I'm worried that if something goes wrong with one of them I won't be able to tell.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Snoof - glad all is going well. Sounds fine.
I don't know the answer to your question but someone with experience will be around soon I'm sure. Smudgley or Fran spring to mind but I'm sure there are others.

Their eyes will develop naturally & as long as you aren't going to be holding them up directly to the sun or a bright light, they don't need to be shielded from light or kept in the dark at all.
