Stockholm

We had beautiful weather - remember sunshine and warmth?
Here are a few pics

The king heard we were in town and sent the HorseGuards to trot past our hotel!

Does my bum look big in this?
I waited ages for the other half to take a pic of me at the bottom of this narrow steep throroughfare in the Old City. *Sigh* I gave up and started walking up ... and the so-and-so snapped me. Men!

Re: Stockholm

Great pictures DM - I'd love to go to Sweden. And I don't begrudge the Swedes some nice Summer weather - they do get an awful lot of cold and damp in the winter!

Have you been watching "Wallender" on BBC4 on Monday nights?

Re: Stockholm

No Angie - I believed the critical hype about it being gloomy and never watched it. I read your enthusiasm for it earlier and will make a point of watching it when it is next repeated.

I love the Swedish practice of having lots of outdoor seating at eateries and drinkeries but also having 'blankies'. either on the seats or at a central spot, so you can stay as the evening cools and snuggle into a soft fleece or (at the posher places) lovely woven blankie

Re: Stockholm

....... and the wine comes in at only about £6 or £7 a glass Jo It's not a cheap destination.
We had
1 beef and spinach lasagne
1 pasta 'al forno' with pasta sheets in rolls with zuccini and ham in a cheese suace (very nice if not well described)
2 glasses of beer
1 glass of red wine
in a very nice but very 'ordinary' Italian restaurant.
The bill was 450 Krowns, which became 500K with the obligatory 10% tip. At 12 to the £ that works out at pretty much £42.

Re: Stockholm

That's expensive! I had heard that Sweden is not cheap. Don't think any of the Scandinavian countries are.

Re: Stockholm

When I went to Norway in the late 80s it was a fiver for a bottle of beer (bottle not pint)!! The only thing that was cheap was moose stew

What lovely photos . . . I adore northern European architecture almost more than southern (it's in the blood I suppose). It looks like a warm, friendly and extremely interesting place to visit and no - your bum doesn't look big in that!!!
