Sounds like he has a cold...

Alfie, my gorgeous two year old cat has always sounded like he has a cold. He has a snuffly sound when he breathes.

However, last night it sounded louder. When he was purring it sounded like he was really bunged up with a cold. He seems happy in himself and is eating and drinking as normal.

He is an indoor cat and is up to date with his vaccinations. He lives with two other cats - Ella his litter sister and Oli my big (nearly) 5 year old boy.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Tanya

Difficult to say Tanya. I think I'd take him to the vet in case he has an obstruction in his nose or something funny happening in his upper respiratory tract. Do let us know what you decide to do.

i dont really know either, the only things i can think may be possible is he could have an allergy or hayfever? i think taking him to the vet is your best bet!

Re: Sounds like he has a cold...

We are back from the vets...

The vet said that Alfie had some discomfort in his throat. He had a metacam injection and also has some metacam drops to do on his food. If it doesn't improve, he will need to go back and have a camera put down hos throat.

The vet tried to check his heart beat but the poor boy was so scared he was shaking and his heart beat was far too fast. I have never seen him shake, let alone as much as he shook tonight. He cried and cried when put in his pet carrier but was happy again once we got home.

Poor boy - it's a shame he got so stressed. Hope the meds work for him. Metacam is an anti-inflammatory.

QUICK UPDATE...

Alfie seems to be back to his normal self again. Fingers crossed he doesn't need to go back to the vets again.
