Chippy all 'ballooned' up

Our mini cat Chippy (tabby below) is now not well.

Towards the end of last week we noticed she had suddenly developed what I can only describe as a pot belly. Chippy has always been a tiny little cat and under her fluff there's never been a great deal to her. She does feel like she's lost weight all over apart from her growing belly. She is eating and drinking, going to the toilet etc as normal and doesn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort. Generally she seems like her normal self.

Initially we wondered if she needed wormed so did that but over the weekend she seemed to balloon even more.

We took her to the vet on Monday night who did all the usual checks- weight, heart rate (which she said seemed quite fast but no obvious murmur or anything) etc. She had a good feel of her tummy and decided that it was too full of fluid to be able to feel for any obvious obstruction or growth so she gave her a diuretic injection to try to get rid of some of the fluid.
We took her back to the vets tonight to get her checked again but she is still carrying too much fluid for the vet to get a proper feel around although she thought her belly did feel softer and less full. She's had another diuretic injection and the vet has taken blood to send off for testing- results should be back on Friday- and we'll see where we go from there.....

Re: Chippy all 'ballooned' up

Thanks folks.

I know these type of things often turn out to be serious but at least for now she's still her chirpy old self.

Will be sure to let let you know what they say tomorrow.
