A long night with Spice.

I fed Spice last night and was pleased to see she had eaten a big amount of her food- more than usual. I gave her the tablets she gets and settled down in bed. She just didn't seem herself, and had a wee head tremor. I put her on the window sill beside the water bowl she likes to use and she drank a lot, I have noticed she has been drinking more, which I guess is a progression of her kidney disease, but she just kept going back to it and was quite unsettled, didn't use the litter tray though.
I'm not sure if she had maybe got too hot because we cranked the rayburn up last night as it was quite cold, or she had a tumy ache from eating so much. She finally seemed to settle at 4 and is her normal self now. I will keep an eye on her and take her to the vet if it continues but there isn't much left they can do.
I feel like going back to bed but will end up losing the rest of the day, as long as she is OK. I guess I know the time for her is drawing near and any unusual behaviour may be cause for concern, in a much more seious way than the others.

Maybe she could do with a top up of fluid, sub-q or IV.... just a thought.
It's a tough call sometimes, looking after sick and aging cats. Hope she perks up and you get some rest tonight.

Re: A long night with Spice.

Well Spice ate all her breakfast really well and seems quite settled. I am not fully confident that she is quite right, but there is nothing obvious, she isn't dehydrated.
I do wonder if this is the high before the low- not sure if it is a scientfic fact but have often found an animal has a bit of a high before the end.

Elaine, we have ( rightly or wrongly) in Spice's case decided not to opt for putting her on a drip. She has so many issues and we don't feel it would be fair in her case- maybe if she could be dripped at home, but we don't want her overnight in the vets alone, when she is so frail.

Spice has been sleeping all day, I haven't done much and just had an hours kip because we have to go out tonight- I want my bed!

I'm glad Spice is alright today, it's so hard when they are elderly and poorly.

Glad she's a little better this morning. It's so hard when they're going downhill, (((hugs))) and sleep well tonight if you can.

Hope she has had a better day today. It is such an emotional tug of war trying to make good decisions for our elderly/unwell cats.
