My typing's too awful to type all the lyrics on here, but three of my favorites would be: Good King Wenceslaus, The Cherry Tree Carol, and O Holy Night. |

Silent Night. Sung either in English, Polish or German. But it sounds best in its original German; Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht . . . . Although Dominik mumbling his way through Away in a Manger comes a close second |

Now we'll have a solo from Eileen!! Good King Wenceslas looked out On the feast of Stephen When the snow lay round about Deep and crisp and even Brightly shone the moon that night Though the frost was cruel When a poor man came in sight Gath'ring winter fuel "Hither, page, and stand by me If thou know'st it, telling Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?" "Sire, he lives a good league hence Underneath the mountain Right against the forest fence By Saint Agnes' fountain." "Bring me flesh and bring me wine Bring me pine logs hither Thou and I will see him dine When we bear him thither." Page and monarch forth they went Forth they went together Through the rude wind's wild lament And the bitter weather "Sire, the night is darker now And the wind blows stronger Fails my heart, I know not how, I can go no longer." "Mark my footsteps, my good page Tread thou in them boldly Thou shalt find the winter's rage Freeze thy blood less coldly." In his master's steps he trod Where the snow lay dinted Heat was in the very sod Which the Saint had printed Therefore, Christian men, be sure Wealth or rank possessing Ye who now will bless the poor Shall yourselves find blessing |

My all time favourite.... Once in Royal David's city Stood a lowly cattle shed Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed Mary was that mother mild Jesus Christ her little child He came down to earth from Heaven Who is God and Lord of all And His shelter was a stable And His cradle was a stall With the poor and mean and lowly Lived on earth our Saviour holy And through all His wondrous childhood He would honour and obey Love, and watch the lowly maiden In whose gentle arms He lay Christian children all must be Mild, obediant, good as He For He is our childhoods' pattern Day by day like us He grew He was little, weak and helpless Tears and smiles like us He knew And He feeleth for our sadness And He shareth in our gladness And our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love For that child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in Heaven above And He leads His children on To the place where He is gone Not in that poor lowly stable With the oxen standing by We shall see Him, but in Heaven Set at God's right hand on high When, like stars, His children crowned All in white shall wait around |

This is another of Eileen's favourites ..... must admit it is a new one to me ..... The Cherry Tree Carol </SPAN> When Joseph was an old man, An old man was he, He married Virgin Mary, The Queen of Galilee, He married Virgin Mary, The Queen of Galilee. As Joseph and Mary Walked through an orchard green, There were apples and cherries Plenty there to be seen, There were apples and cherries Plenty there to be seen. Then Mary spoke to Joseph, So meek and so mild, "Joseph, gather me some cherries, For I am with Child, Joseph, gather me some cherries, For I am with Child." Then Joseph flew in anger, In anger flew he, "Let the father of the baby Gather cherries for thee, Let the father of the baby Gather cherries for thee." Then Jesus spoke a few words, A few words spoke He, "Let my mother have some cherries, Bow low down, cherry tree, Let my mother have some cherries, Bow low down, cherry tree." The cherry tree bowed low down, Bowed low down to the ground, And Mary gathered cherries, While Joseph stood around, And Mary gathered cherries, While Joseph stood around. Then Joseph took Mary All on his right knee: "Oh, what have I done, Lord? Have mercy on me. Oh, what have I done, Lord? Have mercy on me." Then Joseph took Mary All on his left knee: "Oh, tell me, little Baby, When Thy Birthday will be, Oh, tell me, little Baby, When Thy Birthday will be." "On the fifth day of January My Birthday will be, When the stars and the elements Shall tremble with fear, When the stars and the elements Shall tremble with fear." |
