RIP Onyx :(

Very saddened and shocked to say that we lost our black bunny Onyx today . I'm absolutely stunned as she was absolutely fine yesterday. She has shown no signs of illness, no lumps, and was running around her run with her daughter quite happily. I'm now in a quandry as to what to do with Custard. I already have a single female, and I really didn't want to have another on her own as I don't feel it's fair on them (but Nala is very anti social, and there is no chance of pairing them up as they hate each other).

RIP lovely Onyx, with us for so short a time xxx

Re: RIP Onyx :(

So very sorry to read this Alex. I would try to take comfort from the fact that she was showing no signs of illness or discomfort. RIP Onyx.

Re: RIP Onyx :(

I am so sorry

Have your bunnies been vaccinated for VHD as that causes sudden death?

Re: RIP Onyx :(

I've never even heard of VHD Donna, what is it?

And I'm now thinking it was a heart attack. Apparenly my hubby let all the bunnies out for a run yesterday afternoon, and Nala and Onyx had a set to, fur flying everywhere, is it possible that the stress of this could have killed her

Re: RIP Onyx :(

Rabbits should be vaccinated once a year for VHD:

http://www.houserabbit.co.uk/resourc...ets/VHD_UK.htm

and twice yearly for myxi.

It would not be myxi as that is a long death and you would see signs of myxi. VHD is airbourne (amongst other things) and can kill immediately. I only asked as if it was that, your other bunnies are at risk and maybe you can get them vaccinated immediately to give them a chance.

I have four bunnies that each have three vaccinations a year. It is costly, but it gives them the best chance of survival.

I dont think a set-to would cause sudden death unless there was an underlying health problem before? Only a PM can tell you the answer. I am thinking it is more likely to be VHD.
