Newbie here! can anybody help?

hi there, this is my first post, so hello to all ! i joined as i am looking for some help/information regarding my cat. he is almost 5 and black and white shorthair. i noticed maybe 5 days ago that his coat wasnt looking too good and when i went to clap him a lot was matted together, in small patches although i hadnt felt anything the night before. i though with this heat he just hasnt been grooming himself aswell and shedding extra so over a few days i got all the clumps of hair away by combing him. there was a lot of hair coming away and his dandruff is awful(he normally has a wee bit due to lying in the sun). he has been quieter the last day or so aswell but when he didnt eat his dinner last night i knew something was wrong! i phoned the vets this morning for an app and she had a good feel and checked his temp which was fine. she couldnt find/see anything physically wrong with him except the excess shedding but gave him an steroid and anti-inflam inj so help boost his appetite and for any pain, and if he hasnt perked up hes to go in for a blood test on wed. he does seem slightly brighter and has had a wee bit of sardines (i got the one in sunflower oil to help with his coat aswell). does anybody know of anything that could be wrong with him? thanks for any help!

Re: Newbie here! can anybody help?

Taken together, the problem with his fur and loss of appetite I wonder if he has got something on himself that has caused the fur matting and then as he has licked at it he has taken something in that shouldn't be. It's natural to try and get whatever it might have been off your cat, but IMO it may have been better to take him to the vet with it still there so they could see and perhaps take a sample. I do hope it isn't anything like that. Fingers crossed the bloods are OK and the vet thinks of something else. It does seem that cats generally are shedding more in the heat. I am sorry, I can't suggest anything helpful lynz85. Do let us know how he gets on.

It's at least reassuring to know that he's a house cat and that you are sure he couldn't have got anything nasty on his fur. One less thing to puzzle about. Hope all goes well for him. What's his name, btw?

Welcome to the forum , can't realy offer any advice re Mondo's fur except to say maybe the problems are unrelated. One of our Cats who has short hair gets a bit clumpy at times, the problem is usualy sorted with a bit of extra grooming.
Hope he doesn't need the blood test.

Hope his bloodtest shows nothing serious. How long will you have to wait for results, any idea?

Fingers crossed all will go well with the blood testing and they can find out what's causing Mondo's problem.
