Re: wild bird pictures

I've had a quick Google of hen harrier, sparrowhawk and kestrel but can't identify your photo I'm afraid. I'm no good with birds of prey either!

You are right with Chaffinch and your little sparrows are delightful!

Re: wild bird pictures

Looks like a Kwame on a Fly-Agaric to me Shelly!
Yes, male Fringilla Coalebs (Chaffinch).

The bird of prey, hmm, close tie. Without seeing it's size I'd say a female sparrowhawk; they're more common and known for long bouts of hovering. Also the tawny barred tail makes me think sparrowhawk.. It'd be great if it was a Harrier tho', you never know!

Sparrows feeding their bubs are very well caught on camera! Sparrow pic no. 5 with mum looking on intently and with concern as her child learns to tackle seed on his/her own, very sweet.

Re: wild bird pictures

thanks for your thought re the birds, the bird of prey was quite large but i couldn't say how large realy. I was glad it didn't catch anything whilst we were watching.
The sparrows were lovely and never stopped feeding. I filled a feeder with 6 fat balls and they were gone in a day.
