New Job

I was offered a new job today

Its becoming a Care Assistant - a complete change of career and never done before - eeeek! Full training and doing a NVQ2 so able to use my old brain again!

Is it the wrong time?

Everything at home at the mo?

Misty?

Wedding coming up only 6 weeks away?

confused x

Re: New Job

Huh! Life's great at throwing more and more at us isn't it Julie?
Only you can decide - with Martin to talk to about it of course, and maybe input from your son and Mable as well.
I don't think you're liking your current job, so that's a good reason to move!
What kind of care? Or rather, caring for whom? Old folk? There were some lovely people working at the nursing home my dad was in briefly before we lost him.
Or younger people unable to care for themselves? Wonderful work, as long as you can do it while you are there but not take it home.
Training is always good!
Would there be tough hours or could you chose your own to some degree?

And will they give you time off for your wedding!!!!???

Re: New Job

Life is hard

In remembering those of 9/11 I remembered I was at my Mums Funeral, an interview on today of all days

I will chat with Martin and the children - the hours we decided on would be 18 which is a drop to what I am doing at the mo, this will be based on 3 x 6hr shifts.

I am not liking my current job, its boring and very long hours, I come home exhuasted and feeling like I am not achieving anything.

Its a Care Assistant in a Nursing Home, ages from 50 + mostly Elderly and lots very sick.

The people I met today are really lovely, and yes full training and full training towards gaining my NVQ2 - which is good.

Hmm, yes, will I take it home? thats a hard one, also as my friend pointed out, its alot of personal care, which I suppose will come with the training and experience.

Yes she supports family living, my hours would be 18 and time off for the Wedding and Honeymoon.

I am so confused x

Re: New Job

Sleep on it, Sweet. It does sound like a nice advancement, especially as you're not too happy with your present job. Only you can decide, best wishes whatever you do!!

Re: New Job

I worked in a care home for the elderly years ago and loved it.
Derek care's for Adults with learning difficultys. He's been in the same place for nearly 6 years. That speaks for itself I think but it's not for everyone.

Re: New Job

Working is Care is the best thing I ever did,I used to work in a travel agents and hated it.
I work in a treatment and assesment unit for adults with learning dissabilities and challenging behaviour, its extremely hard work and some shifta are very rough but very very rewarding when you see thelads enjoying themselves.
Like Jac said care work no matter what sector you go into isnt for everyone.
Good luck in what ever decission you make

Re: New Job

My mum worked her way up from a cleaner to head of care in a nursing home, she really loved it and was very good at it, very rewarding.

Good luck if you decide to go for it.
