The safest way is to muzzle the dog to start and keeping him or her on a short lead, let a cat wander around. My cat Pip is laid-back and is generally not afraid of dogs. This should not be done in an enclosed space and the cat should have ample escape room if they feel threatened. If the cat wants to, allow it to approach the dog and always be very aware of the dogs' body language and whether it is tensing/growling/ears back etc. If the dog makes no reactive moves, continue with the introduction. Trouble usually comes if the cat takes fright and wants to run - it would have to be a very relaxed dog not to want to chase, but some dogs take no notice. I'm not sure it would be a good idea to use kittens though! |
