Re: Lemony/Limey ZING!

They are just lovely aren`t they Angie, we have one in our garden that looks just spectacular ,I was just wondering though do you know if they could be poisnous to cats as both Maxi & Maisy keep trying to have a nibble on it, I keep shooing them away from it as I know that it can cause skin irritation to people.
For some reason though they seem really attracted to it and trying to rub themselves on it as well .

That's a stunning plant, Angie, lovely unusual color.

By the way, my celandine is in bloom, and thanks to you I now know what is is! Flourished as "unknown" in my garden for years.

They are lovely. I think they area bit 'dangerous' though - doesn't the sap cause dreadful weals if you get it on your skin and then get sunlight on it? If they do that to your skin I can't imagine they are good if ingested

Re: Lemony/Limey ZING!

I know the sap is an irritant to humans and I always make sure to wear rubber gloves and an old shirt (both throw away afterwards) when I cut them back. Neither Merlin nor Smudge ever showed any notice or interest in them, so I wasn't worried. I suppose that's because both cats were much older when we moved here - ie. didn't have kitten curiosity.

The area they are currently in is being redesigned soon, so they will be disposed of. Perhaps luckily, if I am to be "mum" to young cats or kittens again. Much better safe than sorry.
