Goodbye Topsy.
We took in Topsy last year after her owner died and her family couldn't find anybody willing to take her. She was 16 and after a vet check, it turned out she had a broken tooth, when she was in for a dental we got her x-rayed as she was uncomfortable in her back. It turned out she had severe spondylosis. We started her on acupuncture and recently included Metacam as she got more uncomfortable. She always missed the litter tray and needed regular bum baths because she couldn't squat, however she was always keen for a gentle rub and very enthusiastic about her food, she had a fleecy bed by the radiator which she loved to stretch out on.
Yesterday I found her collapsed and surrounded by frothy sickness, her back legs were completely lifeless. I rushed her to the vet and she had suffered a aortic thromboembolism, not linked to her problems but suggestive that she had an underlying heart condition. It is an extremely painful condition and if the cat survives it has a very high chance of it happening again, so I had her PTS. She was a sweet, gentle little thing and I will miss her coming for her morning pet and wandering up and down the hall while waiting for her food bowl to be filled, always ending up with food on her head because she couldn't wait for the food to be spooned into her bowl.
Goodbye sweet Topsy Tops!
