Re: Fran...how is...

Hi Mags, thanks for asking. No, the Farrier is not now coming until the beginning of next week. He wants to give these new shoes a chance even though he has another set of different new shoes lined up in case they don't work He told us to 'up' his pain killers for a couple of days. I am really losing faith in Farriers Even the Farrier Council don't seem to want to know. We really need a Farrier who really knows what he is doing as Bootsy has very bad arthritic problems for his relatively young age and needs very specialised shoeing. Finding a Farrier who can shoe him and is willing to take on such a difficult shoeing prospect is almost impossible The current Farrier we have was recommended by our equine vet but I really am not impressed at the minute

There are different levels of qualification. Remedial shoeing involves further exams and subsequently a higher level of registration. In order for a Farrier to be able to take on Bootsy's sort of work, he has to own his own forge as Bootsy's shoes cannot be bought 'off the peg' as it were

Yes, it is a big worry Mags, quite honestly whether he lives or not depends on being able to get him shod correctly

Maybe you could look for another home in an area where he can be shod correctly? I dont think he needs to die because there isnt a decent Farrier in your area. How about finding a good Farrier, and taking him to them? my friend does this with her Horse, she travels 60 miles each way every 6 weeks. He's such a lovely fellow, would be a dreadful shame to lose him.
Dawn.

Re: Fran...how is...

Oh Fran - how sad!!!! I didn't realise Bootsy had such a problem Why is this Farrier being so intransigent when he (presumably) knows the situation and how critical the shoes are?????
